JK Rowling has released a prequel to the Harry Potter series. This kind of authoring is just a way to squeeze more money out of the millions of fans that Harry Potter books have. A Harry Potter prequel is not nedded, not necessary but a sure fire money spinner for Rowling.

Many authors struggle to get a book published and make a living writing bits and pieces and Rowling was one of these in the past. Now, it seems she is milking the Harry Potter merchandise and movie rights and then she sticks out this prequel knowing that every kid in the world wants more and more Harry Potter books.

My son is mad about them but he doesnt understand that this is just a way to milk the world out of every cent. I am the one that feels guilty when I have to say no to the latest Harry Potter toys, merchandise, DVD and now the Harry Potter Prequel book.

Whats next? I dont know but I know that I am going to be paying for it…..and then some.

With the news of the Comcast Hacking on Wednesday evening it reminded me of how important security is to us all. In the past I have had my identity stolen. Identity theft is in the news a lot as a growth industry in the criminal world. So, how is the Comcast hacking relevant to us all? Well, we all talk a lot about internet security and rely on software to keep us protected. But how often do you, or I, follow good internet security protocols?

The first thing I did this morning is to run an update on my internet security suite and I scanned my hard drive too.

When I, and millions like me, surf the net we encounter all sorts of sites that we respect but what do we really know about these sites? How often do we enter our information in contact forms?

Well, I’m protected…..surely? Well, I’m sure a huge organization like Comcast thought they were protected too. Using free email services and other free internet services is risky but we all use some of the big name internet companies. The Comcast hacking shows how vulnerable we all are to hackers and spammers. Protecting your privacy has always a big problem with free email accounts and internet security. Reliability of the service comes a distant second for me but how many of us think of our security? Not many, I bet. My identity theft was not online but its still weighs heavy on my mind whenever I go online. My personal details are very private and I never keep anything personal on my PC but whenever we use these free services like Comcast then we are have to give personal details……but I lie….all the time. I don’t care how secure companies like Comcast claim to be….I am just as paranoid as I can be and don’t ever, ever, give crooks the chance to begin hacking your PC.

Internet security and identity theft is not the kind of worry that the average Comcast customer is thinking about when they use their service but it certainly is a major problem that lazy people are going to learn about very very quickly.

How has your credit details? How has your email address? How has your password? Do you use the same password for your email acount as you do for your online banking account?

Ask yourself these questions on a regular basis and you will protect yourself, along with constant use of your internet security suite, to protect yourself. The next time a big company like Comcast gets their email hacked then you can pat yourself on the back.
